Mission Statement: Trauma Vidya's mission is to provide relief to those suffering from symptoms of traumatic stress through education, training, treatment, and research.
Our Motivation: The incidence of traumas that affect large populations, earthquakes, hurricanes, floods, and terrorist attacks, for example, appears to be on the increase all over the world. As a consequence, there is an increasing need for information on simple first-aid strategies to prevent trauma symptoms from forming in the affected populations and simple short-term treatment strategies to resolve trauma symptoms quickly in those who have become symptomatic, especially in developing countries. I formed Trauma Vidya, where Vidya stands for Knowledge in Sanskrit, to respond to such a need in the aftermath of the Indian ocean tsunami of December 2004, with the support of other trauma professionals from many countries who specialize in preventing and treating trauma symptoms with cutting-edge short-term psycho-physiological trauma treatment and education approaches based on the latest scientific information on the neurobiology of trauma. It is our mission to provide relief to those suffering from symptoms of traumatic stress through education, training, treatment, and research efforts among affected populations in collaboration with local organizations that serve them.
